This background is specific to Cyranos and The Sea of Cyranos setting.
You hail from a famous tribe of warrior women known as the Amazons. Amazons pride themselves on their strength and independence. Men are not permitted among their ranks and are only used for breeding.
Some tribes have agreements with neighbouring tribes and settlements in which, occasionally the strongest men are chosen to mate with the Amazons. Any girls born from this union are raised as Amazons themselves while the boys are sent back to their fathers.
In more aggressive tribes, men are captured during raids, enslaved and then slaughtered after the deed is done. Any boys resulting from these unions are usually killed or abandoned.
Most amazons would be expected to be cisgender females, however exceptions could be made for transgender or genderqueer PCs so long as the character still mostly aligns to the Amazonian world view.
The link above is extra lore for Amazon PCs within The Sea of Cyranos. It should only be read by players intending to play amazons or those very closely acquainted with the amazons.
You are, or were, a member of the much exalted Magi of Hecate, a group of acolytes and academics studying magic and magic items as well as providing magical services, for a fee.
Many magi may try to distance themselves from their reputation as mages-for-hire or mercenaries but even magi need money.
These backgrounds are specific to The Northlands and the Ash and Snow setting.
You are a raider for your clan in The Northlands. You lead a brutal and violent life constantly just an axe swing away from death, but it's worth it. The treasure you bring back to your clan grants you much glory and renown.
Available clans in the Northlands can be found here.
You are, or were, a thrall to a particular individual or clan in the Northlands. Thralls are the lowest sapient beings on the social ladder, they are the slaves and serfs of the clan.
Most thralls are basic labourers such as farmers, miners and haulers. A few are put into service as house servants, concubines and cooks. Especially strong and loyal thralls may end up as housecarls, bodyguards and even raiders in their own right.
Sometimes entire hamlets and villages are held as thralls to a nearby clan under threat of raiding. Though particular individuals may also be seized and taken home to serve as personal thralls.
Even under the kindest masters, the life of a thrall is hard. You have, or had, no freedom or possessions and had to make do with whatever food and clothing your masters allow. You are, or were, expected to serve without complaint with your life as the only reward.
